What’s that? A new Mavic 3 model? Yes please! The brand new DJI Mavic 3 Classic has just been announced by DJI so we’re here to break it all down. We’re taking a look at key specs and features, how it compares to other DJI drones and more.
DJI Mavic 3 Classic: What’s New?
If you’re already familiar with the key features and benefits of DJI’s flagship Mavic 3 drone series, the honest truth is that there isn’t too much new with the Mavic 3 Classic. In fact, if you already own a DJI Mavic 3 series drone, the Mavic 3 Classic is probably a release you can skip altogether.
However, if you’re looking to upgrade from a smaller drone model like the DJI Mini 2 or DJI Air 2S, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic is a bang-for-your-buck drone that delivers the pro imaging of the DJI Mavic 3 at a new low price.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic: Key Features
Hasselblad Sensor
The marquee feature of the DJI Mavic 3 Classic is of course its pro-level camera. Powered by the Hasselblad L2D-20c sensor that’s purpose-built for aerial imaging, the Mavic 3 Classic delivers stunning 20MP stills with incredible colours and 5.1K video. If you’re looking to put the best possible sensor up in the sky, Mavic 3 Classic is the way to go.
46 Minute Flight Time
Yep, you read that right, the Mavic 3 Classic features a massive maximum flight time of up to 46 minutes per battery. How? The Mavic 3 Classic is engineered to be ultra-efficient and uses the Mavic 3 Intelligent Flight Battery with a whopping 5000 mAh of power. With such a long flight time, you’ll be able to take your time to position and frame your shots.
Advanced Safety + Easy Flight
Just like every DJI drone before it, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic looks to make flight safer and easier than before to enable pilots to focus on creating killer content rather than maneuvering around obstacles. With multiple obstacle avoidance sensors around the drone body that pair together to deliver omnidirectional obstacle avoidance, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic will remain safe and sound, no matter when obstacles are situated.
ActiveTrack 5.0
Pair omnidirectional obstacle avoidance sensors with an ultra-advanced subject tracking algorithm and what do you get? ActiveTrack 5.0, the best ‘Follow Me’ tracking mode available on a DJI drone! ActiveTrack helps you achieve incredible subject-tracking shots of people, vehicles, and more, just by drawing a small box around the subject you wish to track.

How is the Mavic 3 Classic Different from the Standard Mavic 3?
Whilst they’re part of the same family, there are some key differences between the DJI Mavic 3 and the DJI Mavic 3 Classic. If you’re after a complete breakdown of the differences between the Mavic 3 Classic and DJI Mavic 3, check out our product comparison guide here.
No More Telephoto
The new Mavic 3 Classic ditches the dual-camera design of the DJI Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine to place sole focus on its industry-leading Hasselblad wide camera.
What does this mean? Without the telephoto camera, you’ll no longer be able to capture shots with optical zoom. Instead, if you’re looking to capture shots from further away, you’ll need to use digital zoom to achieve this. Just note that digital zoom effectively crops your image, thus lowering the resolution of your final video. This is fine if your final video will only be HD, but for higher resolutions including UHD and 4K, it's best to go for the Mavic 3 and its telephoto camera.
Accessible Pricing
One major - and incredibly important - change to the DJI Mavic 3 Classic is its more accessible price point. Starting at just $2299 AUD, the Mavic 3 Classic offers the largest sensor on a drone at this price point. Compared to the $3099 AUD price tag of the DJI Mavic 3, the Mavic 3 Classic offers a significantly friendly cost of entry and is perfect for pilots that have been looking to upgrade but have been put off by the Mavic 3’s price tag.
New Accessories
The launch of the Mavic 3 Classic doesn’t just bring a new drone for pilots to enjoy, it also brings with it new accessories for the Mavic 3 drone series. Some of these new accessories, including the new Mavic 3 Classic ND Filter Set and Mavic 3 Classic Storage Cover are specific to the Classic. However accessories including the DJI Mavic 3 Fly More Kit are universally compatible with the DJI Mavic 3 series including the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Cine.

Where to Buy the DJI Mavic 3 Classic in Australia
The new DJI Mavic 3 Classic is available in three unique configurations, as a drone on its own, with the DJI RC-N1 controller, or with the DJI RC controller. If you already own a compatible DJI controller, we recommend you opt for the drone-only edition and save a few dollars.
If you’re in need of a remote controller or this is your first drone purchase we recommend opting for the DJI RC edition. Whilst it may be slightly dearer, the DJI RC provides a superior flight experience in every way with its built-in display and ergonomic design.
