DJI Matrice 3D Series: Key Features

Highlights

The M3D series represents some significant upgrades on the M30 series that was used with the original DJI Dock. A 50 minute flight time and 10km max flight radius means the M3D series can cover more ground on each mission. The integrated RTK positioning module provides ±3cm accuracy ensuring precision and thanks to the six directional obstacle sensing system a safe flight is always assured. Third party payloads are also supported through the E-port on both the M3D and M3TD.

DJI Dock 2 Integration

The M3D series is designed especially for Dock 2, DJI’s new and improved drone in a box solution. DJI Dock 2 is an extremely rugged and reliable drone hangar that houses the drone and facilitates its landing, recharging, take off and execution of missions programmed through DJI FlightHub 2 software. This added level of automation creates new possibilities in terms of efficiency for organisations conducting RPAS operations.

Matrice 3D vs Matrice 3TD: Key Differences

The most important difference between the M3D and M3TD are their imaging capabilities as this will determine which practical applications suit them best.

Thermal Camera

The Matrice 3D features a 4/3 CMOS 20MP camera and mechanical shutter. This is engineered for highly precise 1:500 surveying and mapping tasks. The Matrice 3TD is equipped with wide angle and tele zoom RGB cameras as well as an infrared camera. This enables it to depict visible light and thermal images making it suitable for security, public safety and inspection missions.

Matrice 3D Use Cases

Mapping & Surveying

Thanks to its larger 4/3 CMOS 20MP camera with mechanical shutter, capable of a 0.7s shooting interval, the M3D is perfect for use in high precision mapping and surveying operations. Flighthub 2 software integration even allows for 3D maps to be created from flight data. This paired with the Dock 2’s facilitation of autonomous deployment make it a highly useful asset in surveying and mapping of large areas. This could include mine sites, construction sites or other infrastructure projects.

Matrice 3TD Use Cases

Security & Inspection

The M3D series drones have an extensive 50 minute max flight time. This can be utilised by organisations to streamline routine security and inspection tasks such as perimeter monitoring, security patrols and infrastructure inspections i.e. wind turbines, pipelines and fences. Automating these tasks dramatically increases efficiency and reduces costs. Furthermore the thermal imaging capabilities of the M3TD make it ideal for operations that involve 24 hour monitoring or other night time situations.

Public Safety

The 56x hybrid zoom capabilities and thermal imagery of the M3TD mean that they can be utilised by law enforcement, search operations and crime scene investigations. The rapid 45 second deployment time that the Dock 2 offers also allows fast response times when needed.

DJI M3D vs DJI M3TD: Which is Right For You?

As showcased above, the new DJI Matrice 3D series are high class enterprise drones ready to bring next level automation to RPAS missions across a wide range of industries. Powerful in their own ways, their unique capabilities mean they are best suited to different practical applications.

Matrice 3D

DJI M3D is the ideal choice for users looking to collect highly precise site data to complete tasks such as mapping and surveying and where calculations and progress monitoring is required. This would be ideal for situations such as construction site monitoring and earthworks calculations.

Matrice 3TD

The M3TD on the other hand is more suited to missions such as public safety and security operations as well as site inspections. This is thanks to the built in RGB, thermal and zoom capabilities. A practical solution for emergency services, search & rescue, law enforcement, infrastructure inspection, as well as private security tasks such as perimeter monitoring and security patrols.

DJI Dock Series in Summary

The Dock Series provides revolutionary applications to a wide array of industries. Increasing efficiency and safety through streamlined remote operations. The long anticipated release of the new DJI Dock 2 takes these capabilities to the next level with a completely upgraded unit.
